Lightroom 3 is a complete RAW workflow solution for cataloguing, editing, adjusting and outputting files. Import images into the Lightroom 3 Library module where you can start editing your images using star ratings and colour tags, assign keywords and group your images into collections. Next move into the Develop module where adjustments are grouped into eight panels; there’s lots of choice for basic exposure control as well as access to the Tone Curve and advanced mono and split toning options.
Exposure adjustments can also be applied selectively with the Adjustment Brush or Graduated Filter and there’s Spot Removal and Red Eye Reduction, too, for touching up shots. New additions in this version include improved Noise reduction controls, which are excellent, and extra vignetting and grain effect functions. Distortion controls have also been added which can be used manually or automatically with built-in lens profiles. Output options include Slideshows that can be exported to video, print and web galleries with a large number of new templates, or you can publish direct to websites like Flickr, too.
Whether you want to sort and rate images, apply basic RAW conversions, synchronise settings quickly across multiple files or apply advanced adjustments with the localised adjustment tools, this package has it all. In the latest version Adobe has crammed even more functionality into an already outstanding RAW tool with the geometric distortion controls, lens profiling and advanced Noise reduction. The range of outputting options, including slideshows that can be exported to video, and loads of new templates in the print and web modules, means you can shoot in RAW for the best image quality and still share the fruits of your endeavours easily with the world in a variety of ways.
There’s a free 30 day trial available from the Adobe website, so there’s really no reason not to try out this great package, and once you have we’re sure you’ll be reaching for your credit card!
