In the April issue of Digital Photo, Apple’s latest camera phone, the iPhone 4S, has been put under the critical eye of Technical Editor, Michael Topham. Replacing the iPhone 4 in Apple’s range, the 4S benefits from a number of improvements to the camera and includes a new 8Mp sensor and faster f/2.4 lens. These new features are supported by numerous improvements to the functionality of the camera, which you can read more about in the magazine review.

Testing the iPhone 4 over a period of three weeks gave us a chance to test it in a number of real-life situations before comparing the JPEG results directly against the iPhone 4 to see if there were any visual differences. The results of some of these tests have been uploaded to this page for you to check out.

Under close inspection the iPhone 4S produced superior results with better colour rendition and more faithful colours to the scenes that were photographed. Advanced developments to the camera algorithms has helped produced a much more life-like white balance both on the screen and in the images the iPhone 4S produces. Comparing results side by side with the iPhone 4 revealed an improvement in terms of detail and sharpness, too.

For more information, and to find out how well the iPhone 4S scored overall, make sure you pick up a copy of the April issue of Digital Photo, on sale from February 22nd.
