Unlike the others tested, the Sony TX10 hides its tough credentials inside a sleek, smoothly finished body and is the most pocket-sized here with a satisfying slide-action lens cover. It’s also waterproof down to 5m, will survive a fall of up to 1.5m and is freeze-proof down to -100C, keeping pace with majority of other models.
Sporting a 3in LCD touch-screen monitor on the back allows for intuitive menu navigation, however the touch-screen function turns off under water meaning you have to resurface to change any settings. Thankfully, the underwater mode performed excellently in our tests, meaning it wasn’t too frustrating. The TX10 also packs in a 16Mp sensor, a 4x zoom of 25-100mm equivalent and lens-shift image stabilisation for sharper pics. It wasn’t the toughest in our test though, sustaining a crack when dropped (although it did continue to function) and is only waterproof to 5m, but there’s no doubting its image quality, which was outstanding.
