The Samsung NX10 is Samsung’s first CSC and uses a larger APS-C sized chip.

The 14.6Mp sensor on the Samsung NX10 has a standard crop factor of 1.5x, but the ISO range is quite conservative, with a spread of only 100-3200. As it’s a relatively new system, there’s only a small selection of lenses currently available – something to consider if you’re planning on building a system in the short term.
As it’s a CSC, focusing is contrast-detect AF only, with a choice of Single, Multi or Face Detection, though it doesn’t support focus-tracking. There’s a built-in EVF, with a reasonable resolution of 920k pixels. The 3in screen uses AMOLED technology (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) and claims to cut power consumption and increase contrast, and it’s crisp and clear.
The Samsung NX10 is pretty narrow in size, and though the shallow handgrip is quite small, it doesn’t affect the overall grip of the camera, with a good-quality rubber coating in place. The mottled surface around the rest of the camera works well to give a refined feel, too.
The contrast-detect AF system of the NX10 works effectively – it locks on pretty quickly in most circumstances, though it’s not as fast as phase-detect systems.
The eye-start activation for the EVF suffers from a short delay when you raise the camera to your eye and while the EVF isn’t as pin-sharp as others in its class, or an optical viewfinder, it’s certainly adequate for framing up.
There’s a handy command wheel positioned just where your index finger rests, while the D-Pad at the rear offers quick access to metering, ISO, WB and AF modes. There’s also a function button that offers quick access to image size, quality, AF area and colour space adjustment. When shooting in RAW mode, the Samsung NX10 can be sluggish – not only taking a while to write to the card, but also making some functions inaccessible while it does it.
