The NV11 has a protruding lens, but it’s still quite compact and there’s a nice hand grip, too. It has a solid metal finish and Samsung has obviously spent a bit of time trying to get the look and feel right. It’s worked.

There’s a 5x optical zoom covering 38-190mm, though there is no optical or CCD-shift image stabilisation. Instead, the NV11 uses ASR (Anti Shake Reduction), an in-camera process that interprets sharpening and colour information and can only be used on its own specific setting, not in shutter or aperture priority, manual or scene modes. The NV11 uses a nifty and unique Smart Touch system to control camera settings – you just glide your fingers along the vertical and horizontal buttons to access the functions you want. It’s very easy to get the hang of and works a treat. Results weren’t bad from the Samsung NV11, though at 1600 ISO images were pretty poor and suffered from over-sharpening.
