The Ricoh R10 is a pure point-and-shoot camera: there’s no real effort involved. Results aren't bad and with 10MP resolution, it's reasonably good value for money, too.

There are times when you want control, and times when the ease-of-use of a compact like the R10 takes all the hassle away. If you’re regarded by friends and family as the font of all photographic knowledge and have to regularly answer the question – “What camera should I buy? It needs to be good quality and easy to use but I haven’t got much to spend…” the R10 pretty much fits the bill.
It’s a 10MP compact with a 7.1x (28-200mm equivalent) zoom lens. Though it’s very easy to operate, it does include a lot of useful functions. In particular we liked the electronic level that helps you combat wonky horizons;
you also get face recognition (pretty much de rigueur these days), CCD-shift vibration correction and a macro mode that allows you to focus as close as 1cm from your subject.
Although it’s not strictly ‘sexy’, it is solid and stylish. The zoom vanishes at the touch of a button using the lens double-retraction system. The rear LCD screen is 3in, making reviewing and showing off your pics really simple.
Is it easy to use? Yes. Are the images it produces good quality? They’re not bad. Is it value? Well, at around £199 it’s not shabby. Enough said.
