The Pentax K-x is Pentax's latest entry-level D-SLR and has an impressive spec sheet but is accompanied by a lofty price tag, too.
There's a new 12.4Mp sensor and a large ISO 200-6400 range, which can be expanded to 100-12800 on the Pentax K-x. Not only that, but in addition to Live View the K-x can also capture 720p HD video at 24fps, making it a versatile multi-media camera. There’s an 11-point autofocus system, with 9 accurate cross-type AF sensors and the autofocus performance is good with minimal hunting, even in low light. Add to that a 2.7in LCD, Pentax’s sensor-shift Shake Reduction system and PRIME image processing engine that delivers burst shooting at 4.7fps, and you’ve got a good all-rounder. The build has a quality feel with plenty of body-mounted controls and while handling will be appreciated by advanced users, there are no Help menus for newcomers. There's a nice, chunky handgrip but if you’re after a lightweight D-SLR look elsewhere as the K-x comes in at 515g.
