The Nikon Coolpix S510 features a compact, unfussy design and although it’s the lightest camera here, it still feels solid in the hand.

Squeezed into the S510 is an 8.1Mp sensor with a 35-105mm 3x optical zoom lens that includes Nikon’s Vibration Reduction (VR) anti-shake system. The S510 has a wide ISO range of 64-2000 to suit a broad range of shooting situations and although there is a range of scene modes to select, there are no manual input options like shutter priority. Along with the now standard Face Detection AF, there is also a 99-point selectable AF, which is quick to use, thanks to the S510’s rear scroll wheel. The scroll wheel really makes the S510 a joy to use and is used to navigate the camera settings, too, meaning that all shooting options are easy to get at and fast to adjust.
