The Nikon P60 is a handy little camera that features a neat and modern design with a well-balanced feel. It may not be the slimmest camera available on the market, but it feels solid and robust for most jobs.

The P60 boasts a 8.1 MP sensor with a 36-180mm 5x optical zoom lens that also includes Nikon’s Vibration Reduction (VR) anti-shake system. It gives a great range of shooting modes to choose from including 13 scene settings and a night portrait mode. The ISO range that’s offered will cover all different lighting situations from ISO 80 all the way up to ISO 2000. A monitor of 2.5in shows the images sharply on the back of the camera and is matched with easy to use navigational buttons that are well positioned next to the screen. You can easily flick between viewing onscreen and through the viewfinder that’s also provided. Under the AF settings your given Face Detection AF that has become standard on most compacts, and a tidy macro that can focus as close as 10cm (4in.) to the lens.

Selecting your shooting mode is made easy with a fully rotational selective dial and bold message onscreen to show the mode that you have selected. The P60’s general layout and navigation through the menu’s and options is superb with clear and well located buttons, so the new user will soon become confident and be able to start taking photos almost instantly. It’s well worth exploring the different options under the scene mode, with 13 too choose from in all. There’s a voice recording option under this scene mode too that can be great for adding quick memo reminders about the time and location. Testing the ISO showed good results across the range with only slight sharpening at ISO 1600 and 2000.  The High ISO mode is a useful feature that allows you to shoot in low-light situations and change the settings for all options in the shooting menu excluding ISO sensitivity. Despite not being the smallest model to put in your pocket it offers great selective modes combined with a solid performance.
