The Nikon D3000 is a new entry-level model replacing the D60. I

The Nikon D3000 retains the 10.2Mp resolution, ISO 100-1600 range with an expanded ISO 3200 setting and Image Sensor Cleaning with an Airflow control system to remove dust. There’s now a large, 3in LCD screen but disappointingly it doesn’t offer Live View. The autofocus system has been overhauled and features a fast and accurate  11-point system, although there’s no built-in motor so it’s only compatible with Nikon’s AF-S lenses. The image stabilisation system is lens-based, and the supplied ‘kit’ lens includes Nikon’s Vibration Reduction technology offering up to 4 stops anti-shake performance. The D3000 is comfortable to use, its new GUIDE interface has a range of Easy Operation controls for simple shooting, the on-screen menus are logical  for those stepping up from a compact and performance is reassuringly solid, too.
