The Fujifilm XP30 offers a very attractive design with rounded edges and smooth lines, but don’t let this fool you – it will shrug off an impact from 1.5m and will operate in temperatures as low as -100C. Waterproofing covers depths of up to 5m, which is adequate, but not quite up there with the top performers. On top of this, it offers a 2.7in LCD monitor for viewing photos and a simple, straightforward menu system accessed by a set of well-designed buttons that aid handling.
At only £135, the XP30 comes in at the budget end of the spectrum. It offers a lot for your money, with a 14Mp sensor, a 5x 28-140mm equivalent optical zoom, GPS tagging and CCD-shift image stabilisation for less motion blur in your images. However, it fares less well on image quality, struggling on fine details and Noise handling when shooting at higher ISOs. It also sustained cosmetic damage in our drop test, but continued to function.
