The Fuji Finepix HS20 EXR is ta large superzoom with its footprint matching that of an entry-level D-SLR. Although this may be considered a turn-off to those looking for a more compact model, it does allow plenty of space for external shortcut buttons on the body and a deep rubberised grip for comfortable handling. Instead of using a zoom lever to adjust the focal length, Fuji has opted for an SLR-style zoom ring on the lens barrel. This gives added control over the 30x optical zoom (24-720mm), but does cause the lens to protrude from the camera body, contributing to its large size. Behind the lens sits a 16MP, 1/2in EXR-CMOS sensor, able to capture 4608x3456px JPEGs or RAW files, and enabling it to span the largest ISO range in our test, from 100-12800 – albeit at a reduced resolution from ISO 6400 onward. It’s also powered by 4xAA cells, which are stored in the base of the handgrip.
