The Canon PowerShot D10 shouts out its waterproofness with a bold chunky design!

The Canon PowerShot D10 is one of the newest extreme compacts and interestingly, rather than hiding the fact that it’s waterproof, its design makes it more than obvious. It’s quite chunky and this is emphasised by the protrusion of the lens. It does have a solid, weighty feel however, with an array of bolts on display to underline its tough credentials. Speaking of which, it can be used to a depth of 10m and as long as the drop isn’t any greater than 1.22m, should be able to survive a fall, too.

The PowerShot D10 features a 12.1Mp and 3x optical zoom, with a fairly standard 35-105mm coverage. To reduce the risk of camera shake, there’s Canon’s Image Stabiliser, based in-lens, while the ISO ranges from 80-1600. It can be expanded to 3200, though at a severely reduced resolution of 1.9Mp. Among the 17 scene modes available are two dedicated underwater modes, as well as Auto and Program modes to choose from.
Pick up the Canon PowerShot D10 you’ll discover its large size isn’t a real hindrance as it fits in the hand well, although it could be an annoyance if it’s going to spend a lot of time in your pocket. The 2.5in screen isn’t overly large but it’s still a decent size and is nice and crisp. The menu system is quick to get to grips with – simply laid out and easy to navigate – while its button placement is labelled clearly and arranged logically. The chunky design might not be to everyone’s taste, but there’s no getting away from the fact that it’s a solid performer. Its specification is extensive, while it ticks every box when it comes to toughness and backs this up with a solid performance. If you’re going to find yourself in a variety of unforgiving environments and want a camera you can rely on, then the Canon PowerShot D10 is for you.

It is claimed to be waterproof up to 10 meters, freeze proof up to -10 degrees, shockproof when dropped from a height of 1.22 meters and dust proof. The camera has a 12.1MP sensor, 3x optical zoom and a 2.5" LCD, and includes Smart Auto Mode, Face Select & Track, Blink Detection and Face Self-timer. May be no better than a cheap disposable camera, but you aren't paying for development and you get immediate confirmation of your picture quality. Considering how many photographs I take, that is well worth its price in gold. http://www.digitaldesires.net/canon-powershot-d10-a-bubble-body-camera.html
