The arrival of Canon’s 5D Mark II has been much anticipated but finally, after months of waiting, the first models have started to be shipped to the UK! This is fantastic news for those who have invested £2299.99 (body-only) for a new 5D Mark II!

The 5D Mark II is a direct replacement for Canon’s ageing 5D model and this updated version features a newly designed 21.1Mp CMOS sensor that promises to deliver a better signal-to-noise ratio than the previous 5D, ensuring lower digital noise images throughout the ISO range.

There’s also a faster (Digic 4) processor, which enables you to shoot and record images at 3.9fps for up to 310 frames. The new processor has also allowed HD video capture to be recorded on a 5D for the first time at an HD rate of 1920x1080 and makes it the first Canon D-SLR to be fitted with this feature.

Practical Photography and Digital Photo magazines have laid hands on a 5D Mark II for the first time since the launch and first impressions are very positive - be sure to read the February issues of both magazines (on sale December 29th and 30th respectively) for the full reviews. In the meantime, take a look at some of the first high-resolution shots and movies that we’ve taken with the 5D Mark II…
