The Canon EOS range has three well-priced D-SLRs with the Canon 1000D being the cheapest model.
The Canon 1000D is quite small, but it does feature Live View, which is a bonus. The ISO range extends between 100-1600, Canon’s DIGIC III image processing engine ensures quick write-to-card times, and there’s the EOS Integrated Cleaning System to remove dust from the sensor.
The 7-point wide area autofocus system is fast and accurate, although this is not a camera for shooting a quick succession of RAW files as the 1.5fps burst mode is slow. There’s no Spot-metering mode either, and if you want image stabilisation make sure you buy the IS ‘kit’ lens. Handling is very slick with a good selection of body-mounted controls for quickly changing settings, and an intuitive menu system, too.
