Venue information
Nestling under the towering peaks of Yr Eifl to the south, and both Gyrn Ddu and Bwlch Mawr to the north, Trefor is a hidden gem of the North Wales coast. The area close to the car park and pier don't look too promising at first glance, but take a short walk past the pier and sea wall, and you'll find one of the most magnificent locations on the Lleynn Peninsula. At the end of the sea wall you can scramble over the rocks at the end of the pebble beach. This will give you a spectacular view back towards the pier with magnificent mountains in the background and the jagged rocks in the foreground. If the tide is high you can use the waves swirling around these rocks to add even more foreground interest. just a few steps around this small headland you'll also find an old concrete jetty jutting out into the sea, which can also provide a great subject.
While the harbour view is beautiful and the jetty is striking, if you'd rather shoot towering cliffs you need to take a walk further down the coast. At the end of the sea wall take the footpath that leads up over the headland, through a National Trust nature reserve. After about a mile the path will start to descend, and you'll catch the first sight of the amazing cliffs as the Yr Eifl mountain reaches the sea. The path takes you down onto a beach covered in smooth, weathered rocks, which is perfect for sunset shots.
Venue Verdict: An amazing location that's full of photographic potential.

I love this beech - not far from my home and complete with porpoises if you can find them! The old granite quarry above is a bit of a slog as the ascent is extremely steep but great for panoramic photographs.
