Venue information

Venue details: Arriving at the car park at Rowardennan is a bit of a relief after the six mile drive down narrow, winding roads. Once you are here you are rewarded with magnificent views across the loch towards the mountains in the north-west. You only need to take a short walk along the shore past the small pier to find plenty of superb viewpoints with rocky shores to use as foreground interest. It's easier to capture the textures and detail in the rocks if you use a wide-angle lens and a low viewpoint. You'll also need to use a very small aperture to keep both foreground and background in focus, so take a tripod along. Remember that because of the mountains the sun will disappear well before the stated sunset time, so arrive at least a couple of hours before this.

Venue Verdict: The mountains aren't as magnificent as the highlands, but it's still an impressive and photogenic location.
