Venue information

Tobermory is the Isle of Mull’s main village, made famous by the children’s programme Balamory. The village is extremely attractive with colourful painted buildings that line the main street. The harbour is always busy with fishing boats and yachts and you may even come across the Tobermory RNLI boat that’s positioned at the far end of the harbour, run by local volunteers.

There are plenty of photo opportunities in the village and you can easily photograph across the harbour towards the colourful buildings. If you’re into wildlife photography, we would recommend one of the many wildlife expeditions that run across the Island. For more information, head to the Isle of Mull Wildlife Expeditions website www.torrbuan.com.

If you’re in need of somewhere to stay, take a look into the Tobermory Youth Hostel, ideally placed on the front, overlooking the harbour.

I visited the Isle of mull not long ago and was simply blown away by the photographic potential that the isle has. I stayed at Achnadrish House, a B&B run by a Mike Story who is also an avid photographer and was more than happy to direct me to the best spots. There is no shortage of wildlife even in the winter. I've just booked my return trip for the summer to shoot the puffin and other birds, hopefully even an eagle or to this time.

Just had a week on the Isle of Mull at the end of June. The island is beautiful - very quiet and peaceful. If you like wildlife there is something round every corner. Sunsets and sunrises are breathtaking. The food at The Tobermory Hotel was second to none and the staff were very helpful. One of the best trips we went on was a boat trip to see the puffins on the Treshnish Isles and the amazing Fingle's Cave. Iona was absolutely beautiful the day we visited - the sky was so clear and the sea a wonderful blue with soft white sand - who needs the Bahamas! When you go out be prepared for every weather condition possible as it can change so quickly from sunshine to rain.
