Scourie Bay

Directions: On the A894 Ullapool to Durness Road.
Accessibility: The bay and hotel both have free car parks. There are some steps down to the beach from the car park at the bay. Access the headland is across a small path above some rocks and is narrow at points.
Costs: All access and car parks are free. Please check the websites below for prices regarding the hotel and campsite.
Best time to visit: Summer is best because it is less stormy and the headland is safer compared to winter.

Venue information

There are plenty of walks around the beach and headland area. The walk to the top of the headland can be slippery and steep in places, but the views from the top are excellent. The village offers a caravan and camp site, or there is a hotel both have full facilities. More information about both can be found on these websites www.scourie-hotel.freeserve.co.uk and www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=1669

The area is great for hill walking, fly-fishing and wildlife watching. The cliffs and rocks make excellent habitats for bird life and other animals. Dolphins and whales have been seen in the bay from the headland but are not very common.

Venue verdict: A great place to visit and some excellent photo locations.

Scourie itself is a typical North Scottish village, but the scenery in the area is something to die for. There are lots of photo opportunites within a few miles - soaring peaks, blue lochs (if the sun shines), the architectural bridge at Kylesku together with lots of wildlife including the birds, rabbits and various other small animals on Handa island. I thoroughly recommend this area withe only negative for me the 550 mile drive to get there.
