Venue information
Troup Head is Scotland's only mainland gannet colony and features dramatic, expansive panoramic views along the Moray Firth and beyond. The reserve comprises a coastal strip approximately 2.5 miles (4 km) in length, impressive sea cliffs, steep vegetated slopes and rocky beaches. This important seabird colony contains significant populations of fulmars, gannets, shags, kittiwakes, guillemots, and razorbills and there are even some puffins. Over 150,000 breeding seabirds are present here in the summer months.
Venue verdict: Excellent photography and more accessible than some of the island colonies.
