Filey Brigg

seperator graphic

Venue information

Making your way along the footpath to reach Filey Brigg in the dark before dawn can be a little tricky, so if you want to shoot sunrise we’d recommend that you take a good torch to help you to stay on the right path. The views, once you arrive at the end of the footpath, are worth the effort though. To the right you can see the sandy beaches of Filey Bay, while to the north the landscape rises into steep cliffs. The rocks of the Brigg itself create a natural focal point to the scene. The north side of the Brigg faces the full force of the North Sea, so on a choppy day the waves will crash against the rocks. This makes it perfect for shooting on stormy days. The water on the south side of the Brigg is often much calmer, making it perfect in more settled conditions.

Venue Verdict: It’s worth the walk to reach the stunning views, just watch your step along the footpath.

I live near Filey but I've never seen a picture as good as this of the brigg. I love how it seems to tell a tale. Dangerous :) Amazing.

I went to Filey in 2007, and also in 1954, it has changed. For a start there used to be a thing called Moaning Minnie on the seaward end that let out a horrible moaning noise when the wind was high. it was also bigger in 1954, the waves have worked there effect quite a lot. Still it is a great place to take photographs, if a little dangerous (in 1954 I saved my brothers life when he silpped into the sea and I was able to grab him and pull him out. He was 8 at the time). Take care a and watch the tide, but also watch the sky, it can be very dramatic. Also don't ignore Filey itself, there are some great potential images if you walk along the seafront. Great image by the way

Just to emphasize the safety point. If you walk out to the Brigg from the beach, the rocks are very smooth and slippy. Access from North Cliff Country Park is safer but this path, too, can be muddy. Excellent location, thoroughly recommended.
