Venue information
The Carding Mill Valley is an extensive and beautiful area of upland heath that rises up from the base of Church Stretton and for the photographer there are plenty of fast running streams and waterfalls to make it rewarding. At the base of the valley you’ll find a useful National Trust information centre that provides you with all the relevant maps and guides you need to explore this spectacular landscape.
There’s a superb walk that starts off from the car park and the path leads up the hillside with fast flowing waterfalls and streams crossing over from either side. As you progress further up the track, bear left and the waterfalls become more impressive in size. You’ll eventually come to the well-known and well-photographed Light Sprout Falls, but make sure you visit early in the morning for the best lighting conditions.
The highest point on the walk is Pole Bank, which stands at 1693 feet above sea level, and we recommend you take an Ordnance Survey map with you on your expedition so you don’t ger lost in this vast landscape!
Overall, the Carding Mill Valley is a stunning area of outstanding natural beauty that won’t disappoint the landscape photographer – don’t forget to pack a tripod for those long exposures and silky water shots!

I have "walked" up Cardingmill Valley many times with 11 year olds - they are always impressed with the views from the top and are amazed at the silence that envelopes by.

car park can be a little on the expensive and/or busy - but the walk itself is well worth it. you will need to cross a stream so make sure you have suitable footwear, although in summer, this can be done in trainers if you pick the right stones to walk on!!!
