Venue information

There are two sides to Hunstanton, or Sunny Hunny as it's affectionately known…

Hunstanton is made up of the old Victorian town with its Esplanade Gardens and sedate air of days-gone-by. There's the lively, buzzing family resort, with donuts and candy floss, ice cream, donkey rides and a whole funfair of amusements to keep you entertained! And don't forget the famous stripy cliffs and a fabulous beach, which has a Good Beach Award for safety and cleanliness. The beach has a variety of features worthy of a shot or two.

Venue Verdict: Hunstanton is a classic seaside resort with a fantastic beach filled with photo opportunites. The north sea wind can whip up so a hat might be handy.

The in-coming roads can be frustrating with few over-taking opportunities, but once you're there I've always totally enjoyed my day. The expanse of sand is quite magnificent but only if you love the landscapes like I do, otherwise half of Hunstanton has a risk of being slightly featureless. On the whole though, a big thumbs up from me...

I've been to Sunny Hunny loads of times, a great place to take pics and off season becomes even better, especially on a windy day. It has had a ship wreck on the beach in front of those candy coloured cliffs. Loads of wildlife, sports action and landscapes to be snapped. Also some beach huts from Old Hunstanton towards to great links golf course. Definitely worth a visit.

No-one has yet mentioned the stunning colour-layered cliffs if you walk round the coast. Able-bodied access only though and you will need sturdy footwear (and beware the tide - you've got to walk back). To give you an idea of the potential (I'm new to this, but I think I got foreground interest) see http://www.flickr.com/photos/31428446@N03/3203559979/ (if still there). Also, if you have private transport, head north on the coast road ("keep left at junctions") and there is a white lighthouse with framing if taken through an old ruin. There is a pay-display car park behind the lighthouse or you may be lucky to get free parking on the coast road.

Hunstanton can be a good place to photograph especially in the off season Oct - Jan as the crowds of people are gone and the beach is deserted. Also one of the few places on the east coast where the sun sets over the sea. As you walk down the beach towards the cliffs the photo oppertunities become more apparent though so it is worth the walk. All in all an ok place to go and a good place to photograph.
