Venue information
The Hexden Bridge crosses over the Hexden Channel, which is formed two miles south-east at the River Rother. The channel is extremely slow flowing and very still, making it an ideal location to get fantastic reflection shots of the river wildlife and local trains passing over the bridge.
The Kent and East Sussex preserved railway runs from Tenterden to Bodiam and is operated by a committed group of volunteers. The busiest times to visit are at weekends and at peak times in the summer when an extensive timetable is in operation. The line is littered with small bridges that pass over local rivers and 1000 yards south west is the Rother Valley Railway bridge. The River Rother was originally named as the River Limen and runs for 35miles from its mouth at Rye Bay.
The footpath can be followed towards the Rother Valley Railway bridge and runs alongside the river before entering the village of Newenden. For anyone who enjoys their walking it’s good to join the train at Tenterden, disembark at Wittersham road and walk via the footpath to Northiam station, before traveling onwards to Bodiam Castle.
Bodiam Castle is one of the UK’s most famous and evocative castles and is within a 5 minute walk of Bodiam station. It’s part of the National Trust and is well worth a visit if you happen to be in the local area.
