Road: A35 - Take the junction off the A35 with the A351 near Poole, and follow this towards Wareham and then on towards Swanage. At the junction with the B3069 (after Corfe Castle), turn right heading towards Kingston; after the village there will be another junction on the right that heads to Worth Matravers. As you reach the village there is a public car park on the right-hand side.
Venue information
Prior to WW2 Winspit Quarry was used to quarry local stone but was used as a naval and air defense site. The site is now private but the public is allowed access to the quarry and caves at their own risk.
A walk from Winspit, one of the few places where the site of old cliff mining activities for Purbeck stone can be easily photographed. Then continue west along the cliffs toward St Aldhelms Chapel and then on to Chapmanās Pool. The photographer should always be sure to look over his/her left shoulder as they walk westward, as there are many wonderful shots to be taken on the way. You can then return inland and eastward toward Worth Matravers and the Public House dedicated to the stonemason and his art.
