: The footpath is a little steep in places, but the lower waterfalls on Stickle Ghyll are only a short distance from the car park. There are more waterfalls all the way up to Stickle Tarn for the more energetic explorer |
| Costs: |
Car park pay and display. |

The colour of the fells around Stickle Ghyll really come alive in autumn. The waterfalls are in shadow early and late in the day as they’re surrounded by high fells, so they’re best visited during the day. |
Venue information
Stickle Ghyll flows down from Stickle Tarn high in the Langdale Fells creating a series of stunning cascades and waterfalls along its route down to Great Langdale Beck. The lower falls are easily accessible via a well-made footpath, and are small, but beautiful and extremely photogenic. Of these waterfalls the one just before a small bridge crossing the river is the most easily accessible. The OS map shows the footpath going all the way up to the tarn on the left of Stickle Ghyll, but following some landslides it’s much easier to cross the river at this bridge, and use the newer footpath to make your way up the mountain. The higher section gives you amazing views down the valley, and of the Langdale Pikes, with the cascades of the water to use as foreground interest.
Venue verdict: Stickle Ghyll is an excellent location for stunning views of Langdale and some superb, if small, waterfalls. It's also a great starting point for a longer trek into the Langdale Fells.
