Venue information
Blea Tarn is one of the most popular spots for photographers in the Lake District, but that doesn’t mean you should avoid it. With small groups of trees surrounding the shores and the majestic fells as a backdrop, you can get shots that look as though you’ve trekked into the remotest area of the Lake District just a short walk from the car. Shooting from the south shore with the small fence in the foreground is one of those iconic views, but you can easily take the footpath round the west of the tarn for a less-photographed view. It’s worth keeping a watch out for cars travelling along the road spoiling your shots if you want to maintain the illusion of a remote location, though.
Venue verdict: Stunning views and parking nearby make Blea Tarn an ideal location for those wanting the remote look without a long walk. Beware the tricky roads leading to the car park, especially in bad weather.
