Surrounded by the beautiful Shuttleworth Estate, this centre couldn’t be in a better location. For photography the public displays give a good opportunity to practice your action shots of birds in flight, although during the busy season the crowds may prove limiting. Elsewhere, many of the birds are in wire enclosures not conducive to photography, although there are some birds on display where good portraits can be obtained. Bring fast, medium-to-long telephoto lenses. During organised workshop events the photographic opportunities are greatly improved. Birds can be taken into the surrounding woodlands for natural-looking images. Set-ups include a mock thatched roof and private flying displays also provide a much better opportunity for honing your action shots and using wider-angle lenses. You can also watch a video of pro photographer Chris Weston showing you loads of tips on photographing the birds at this venue here...
Venue verdict: An excellent venue for photographing birds of prey, particularly on an organised photography event.
