Re: tripod at Aldi

OK.....This morning i got the tripod at aldi's and bought one for my inlaws too.....came home opened it and thought....For 12 quid this is a effing good deal, first up though it is not great quality but hey,...what do you expecty for the 12 UK bucks, second, this is a great backup tripod if you don't want to bring your more expensive one to a dirty place.....the tripod is sturdy, light and easy with an extra quick release in a seperate pouch attached inside the carry case....Than there is the handle to carry it which is pretty good...i hung a "big shopper" bag underneath it with 5 kg of weight in it and it doesn't budge or any kind of weak point that i have felt....

So in the end i got a tripod and it is good for me but do want a better one for in the future...like an Manfrotto.

And what i really like about it is that there is not a single print on it what so ever....Nice and clean aluminum look....I might get a second one....

Think you got that the wrong way round   Yes the attachment screw is a standard size to fgit into teh base of a camera - you could take the camers to the store to check if you want to be sure.   I'll nip down to the Aldi near me and look at the tripod - could be a spare.

Re: tripod at Aldi

the reason i asked walter is

i have an old camlink tripod with a screw fitting (used to use it alot in my video days)

just next to the screw is a small metal pin, that is partly retractable, on my dvd camera and palm corder, the little retractable metal pin had a place to live, and held the camera's steady

on my gx10 there is no place for the pin to live, so my camera swivels on the tripod

The pin is fitted with an spring so it pops up when nothing pushes it and underneath the screw is and some sort of wing to screw your camera to....hope my explanation is clear enough.

Yes know what you mean, I had one for a scope with the same idea - it helps to lock the scope in,  camera tripods do not have that pin.  You coud save money by cuting the pin of the old tripod and smoothing it down, that is if you are not going to use it with the camcorder again.  I would think that ALDI tripod being a camera tripod will be suitable for your camera..
