THE WOLF MAN - ON LOCATION

The Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, SE London is getting a full Hollywood makeover to transform into a bustling London street of the Edwardian era.  It's certainly one of the most expensive location set-ups I've seen - and there's no shortage of big budget movies in which the ORNC has starred (Madness of King George, Four Weddings ..., Patriot Game etc).

Night time shooting is involving no less than forty carriages, hackney cabs and two omnibus and at the back of the college there's temporary stabling for 40 horses, plus there's some 50 location lorries, generator vans, trailers, wardrobe trucks.

This movie has to be costing about £30 million pounds but we'll have to wait until 2009 for its completion.

Attached are some shots from the location.

Cool! How do you manage to get such access?

You’re only young once – but you can be immature for as long as you like!

WOOLF MAN LOCATION SHOTS 2

Access wasn't a  problem as the College is a working university, music college and Heritage site.  However it is a closed set for the night shooting - that's when they've got the fog machines going and some 150 costumed extras in place.

The fog machines incidentally are not so much about atmosphere as they are about obscuring all those tell-tale signs of modernity ... cars, blocks of flats and not forgetting overhead aircraft.

Some more shots:

1. Carriages for the gentry

2. Hackneys and a park wall & foliage none of which was there last week.

3. Techies at work laying down crash mats for what will be a smash, crash and splash scene to resemble the Picadilly Circus finale of American Werewolf in London.  Those horse by the way are genuine stunt horses.  I asked one for his autograph but he told me ... altogether now!!!  Neiighhhh!!!!
