Help...lost my "right click"

Can anyone out there throw light on my problem. When I "right click" on a thumbnail, instead of the usual "drop-down" menu choice, my computer takes me straight back to the desk top. If I go back to my file lists and try again, same thing. Therefore I can't use any of the "right click" attributes. Its a pain. My Panda Titanium virus checker is updated each time I log on, and I have Spysweeper  running,  so I don't think its a virus. Any ideas techies out there?  ( Or is there another way to get to the attributes) Thanks,  Nigel

Have you tried going to the control panel and going to mouse options and seeing how your mouse is configured? Just a thought! Regards, Phil.

It is better to have taken a poor picture than never to have taken it at all, from this you can learn.

Hiya,

I can't think of anything other than to do what shipwreck has suggested and check on your mouse settings in control panel or remove mouse and then plug it back in to see if computer will reinstall it.   If it's a recent problem I always follow the standard IT mans suggestions --- restart your computer!

When my cats aren't happy, I'm not happy. Not because I care about their mood but because I know they're just sitting there thinking up ways to get even.

You could also try experimenting by going back to a restore point, either a manual one you created or an automatic one your PC chooses periodically, where the problem didn't exist, if this works then it would highlight a potential software issue. Failing this it may very well be a problem with the mouse?, although I doubt it. Can you borrow one and cross reference the problem maybe? Sorry I can't help any more, I am certainly no computer whizz!!! Godd luck, Phil.

Is it just when you click on thumbnails?   Or have you lost your rightclick functionality completely?

Thanks for replying. If I "right click" whilst I am looking at this forum page I get the box of actions opening up. Its only when I am in My Computer, File Manager, with all the thumbnails in the right hand pane that the right click disappears. Mysterious.  regards, Nigel

Ok

You should have a few options - there are keyboard shortcuts, depending on what you want to do

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126449

Then there is also the menu toolbar, depending on what you want to do, which in case you don't know is the bit across the top of the screen than says "File   Edit  View Favourites  Tools   Help"   Each of these will have different menu commands.  Not all functionality is turned on at all times.

If you want to copy a weblink   highlight the address,   hold down the  CTRL key and press C on the keyboard.   Then go to your insertion point and hold down the CTRL key and press V.    You would think it would be P for paste, but P is for Print.

Hope this helps in some small way

But in terms of getting the functionality back - sorry no can do.    You might have accidently turned it off.

Re: Help...lost my "right click"

If you using Windows xp or 2000, try go to "My Computer" then "Tools" then "Folder Options" then click on "Restore to defaults"..............  this should fix it if it's a folder option setting that has been adjusted...

Hope this helps Nigel....

Send me a mail if it doesn't and i'll get you a link for some programs to test it

I have just found out, accidently, that the F6 key highlights the contents of the address bar.
