SD is an abbreviation for the term Secure Digital and it’s a memory card format that’s been developed by Matsushita, SanDisk and Toshiba for use in portable device such as digital compact cameras. Other devices that also use SD cards include mobile phones, PDA’s and GPS receivers.

SDHC cards have now been released which offer a larger capacity than the traditional SD card. SDHC cards can only be used in SDHC compatible devices so always check your handbook to ensure your camera is compatible before purchasing one.
