Quick release plate

The screw fitting that is used by all the current cameras and tripods is completely standard, so you can fit any camera to any tripod without any problems.
Some tripods use a system known as a quick-release plate to make it easier to take the camera on and off the tripod without having to screw and unscrew it every time. This plate uses the same fitting to attach it to the camera, but stays on the camera all the time you want to use the tripod. With the plate fixed to the camera you can then simply clip and unclip the camera onto the tripod.
These quick-release plates do differ between tripod manufacturers, and even individual models of tripod. So once you’ve bought the tripod you will need to buy the right plate for your tripod.
