Auto white balance
Photopedia

Auto white balance is a system that is usually inside the camera to measure the colour temperature and automatically sets the white balance to achieve a neutral result.
It is useful for situations when you don't want to, or don't have the time, to set the white balance manually. But be aware that these systems can occasionally be fooled by strongly coloured subjects into giving incorrectly coloured results.
For example, in our colourful flower shot taken in the shade, Auto white balance has given a completely incorrect result. By switching the White balance to shade, the result is much improved.
