A viewfinder is the viewing window you look through in a camera to compose your shot. The viewfinder on SLRs displays the exact same image that will be captured on the film or film. Most compact cameras also have a viewfinder but these are adjacent to the lens and so you don’t see the exact image that will be captured.

The mirror lock-up is a camera function used to help reduce vibrations when taking a picture. The mirror lock-up requires the shutter release to be pressed twice to take a picture. The first press will flip the mirror up, and the second will open the shutter to take the picture.
