There are lots of photographic courses to choose from. Distance learning to full-time courses, from university to your local community centre, there’s something for everyone. Choosing the right course can be a minefield – here is a guide to most course types available.
There are a number of awarding bodies offering a range of qualifications at different levels. UK qualifications are rated nationally on a numbered scale - GCSEs are level 2, A-levels are level 3 and undergraduate degrees are level 4.
Here are a few things to think about before you choose a course. Are you interested in photography as a hobby or a career? Do you wish to gain a qualification? Would you prefer an academic or vocational course, or a mixture of the two? What’s your budget? Something else to consider; courses that lead to a formal qualification tend to be cheaper than those that don’t.
