So basically, the winning shot was a very manual tilt/shift exposure - I've been reading up on 'free lensing' and I'm not sure it's all that good for your DSLR.  Don't get me wrong here - the winning composition this month is a fabulous portrait and a very worthy winner indeed but perhaps the technique used should come with a slight caveat for your equipment.  The alternative isn't much better though, spending a large amount of money on a 45mm or 90mm tilt/shift lens isn't much of an option for most people, not least as they are only really recommended for full frame bodies too.  Well done to all of the finalists this month :)
