Raw Compatibility Chart

If you've tried to open a RAW file and can't, this is because your camera is more recent than your software. All RAW files are unique to each camera model, so your software can't interpret RAw files from a camera that is younger than the software.

Your RAW converter can be updated with a plug-in, but if you've just treated yourself to a very recent D-SLR, you'll need to be using CS4 or Elements 8 as the very latest updates aren't compatible with older versions of Photoshop or Elements. However, if you're using CS3 and have invested in a Nikon D90 for instance, then it can be upgraded to support the right RAW files.

To help you out, our RAW compatibility chart is available here. It allows you to see which version of Photoshop or Elements your camera works with. Once you know you can go to www.adobe.com/uk/downloads to download an update.

If you still have no luck, there's always Adobe's free DNG converter - which lets you convert your RAW files to Adobe's universal DNG format that can opened in earlier versions.
