The Diploma in Creative and Media (Levels 1-3)

22 July 2008 16:15

The Diploma in Creative and Media is a brand new qualification that will be implemented autumn 2008. It’s aimed at young people aged 14-19 who would like to work in industries requiring specific skills. Because this is a new qualification, it won’t be taught in every school and college straight away.

The qualifications are claimed to offer students with choices that allow them to follow their interests. Initially, they choose the subject areas they wish to study. Students of the Higher Diploma will have to choose a minimum of six while students of the Advanced Diploma a minimum of four. Having made this choice, students can maintain a diverse study programme or specialise in one subject area.

Subject areas available for study within The Diploma in Creative and Media are: 2D Visual Art, 3D Visual Art, Advertising, Animation, Audio & Radio, Computer Games, Craft, Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Fashion, Film, Footwear, Graphic Design, Interactive Media, Music, Photo Imaging, Product Design, Television, Textiles and from 2009, Printing & Publishing.

Alongside this creative content will be some compulsory elements that every student will have to complete. In years 10 and 11, core national curriculum subjects like maths, P.E, and science will continue to be studied. All students will be required to meet a minimum standard in English, maths and ICT either as part of the diploma or GCSEs alongside it.
