Access Course (Art & Design)

Access courses are aimed specifically at mature students. They provide a springboard into higher education for individuals with little or no qualifications. They prepare students for higher education with a broad introduction to art and design. Entry is based on an interview and evidence of ability rather than on formal qualifications.
Students develop the skills and confidence they need through assignments, study skills, creative use of IT, and historical and contextual studies. Work is completed at advanced levels and students can evaluate their interests and potential before selecting a course for further study. Areas of study within the course may include photography, design, 3D design, sculpture, fine art and textiles etc.
Stage 1: Introductory stage
You will complete essential induction programmes.
Stage 2: Specialist studies
You will explore the basics of visual language and develop the visual, verbal and written skills needed to present your ideas effectively and to engage in theoretical debate.
Stage 3: Final project
You will undertake a major project which leads to a final assessment exhibition.
Career opportunities
This course prepares you for progression to higher education in a variety of subject areas or to work within the creative industries.
